Rewards

“The best parts of being at The Ryes are the reward days out, when we do things like quad-biking or crabbing.”

— Chris, Ryes Student

We believe in reinforcing positive behaviour and encouraging an understanding of actions and consequences. The Ryes Reward System is a way for our young people to monitor their own achievements across four perspectives; behaviour, attendance, home life and progress.

Each week, students discuss with staff the points they have accumulated during the week. The agreed number is then documented on an interactive online system and each young person is given a password to access and review their accumulated points. Once earned points cannot be taken away. One of the core values of The Ryes is keeping promises, and this approach reflects our commitment to that.

The scheme is proving popular with our young people. Young people can choose their rewards from a list of options or agree a reward and suitable number of points with staff. One of our students already achieved a season ticket for his favourite football team, while another has just achieved his long term goal of accruing enough points for a laptop.

The scheme is under constant development by a dedicated team responsible for its operation throughout the Ryes, and in particular adapting the scheme where required to ensure equality of access and relevance to all of our young people.
